Chapter Twenty One
"What are you doing here? How did you know where I live
in the first place?" Pierre frowned at Josh standing on the
other side of her door as the fall wind blew at the ends of his
hair. "Didn't I tell you I wasn't interested?"
One large, masculine shoulder rose up in a careless shrug,
"What can I say? I liked the fact that you are playing hard to
get," he said with an easy smile. "I've always found that
quality attractive in a woman. Besides that, Craig thought we
might hit it off if I got to know you better."
Pierre didn't want to admit that Shea practically told her
the same thing before she left on her trip. "Craig doesn't
know me that well to assume I would want to date someone
like you."
Gray eyes flickered then drilled into hers, making her body
take notice of the hunk in front of her. "What do you mean by
someone like me?" Josh questioned in a heated voice.
"Do I really have to spell it out for you?"
"Are you talking about me being a white man? You didn't
come across as a racist person to me."
Pierre didn't know whether to slam the door in Josh's face
or laugh her head off at his assumption of her. "No, I could
care less that you were white. My last two relationships were
with white men. I'm talking about the fact that you're one of
those men that still believe you're God's gift to women. I hate
overly confident men."

"So, your last boyfriend allowed you lead him around by
the nose, did he? Did he not know how to take charge of the
situation? Or are you one of those women who get off
wearing the pants in the relationship?"
"I get off on a lot of things, but you aren't one of them,
Josh," she teased, enjoying the interested look that passed
across his face.
"Are you challenging me to prove you wrong about that?"
he asked. "I don't mind one bit taking you up on it. You're
definitely the type of woman I'd love waking up to in the
morning."
Pierre felt a shiver go through her body and she knew it
wasn't from the cold air blowing around them. "I'm surprised
you let any of your conquests spend the night after you're
finished with them."
Josh stepped closer to her until his big body blocked out
everything else. "I only let the special ones, and I can tell
that you're going to be one of them."
"Don't assume. You know what they say about people who
assume things that they shouldn't," she retorted trying to
stay calm.
"No, I don't know what they say. Why don't you tell me?"
he whispered, stroking the side of her face with the back of
his hand like he had all the right to be touching her.
She shook off his light caress and glared at him above her
reading glasses. "When you assume you make an ass of you
and me. Are you going to tell me you never heard of that?"
"I can promise you that I'm not making an ass of myself.
I'm very confident in my belief that you want me," Josh

challenged without batting an eye. "Do you want me to prove
it?"
No ... no ... don't let him prove it. "Sure, I have some time
to kill," Pierre sassed back.
Josh's mouth was on hers the second the last word left
hers, and Pierre almost fainted from the intense heat. All the
built up sexual tension she hadn't been able to find with other
men came crashing around her like an avalanche. One stroke,
two strokes, three strokes, and she lost count of how many
times Josh's tongue licked at hers.
She tried her best to shove Josh away from her but she
couldn't do it. Instead her arms wrapped around his shoulders
and pulled his hard body until her breasts pressed into his
wide chest.
"Hell, get a room or at least go in the house, other people
don't need to see that," a male voice yelled, breaking into
their passionate moment.
The sound of the angry masculine voice was like a bucket
of cold water poured over her head. Jerking back, Pierre
pressed her trembling fingers to her swollen mouth. "This
isn't going to happen again. I want you to stay away from
me." She stepped back inside her house. "You aren't to
breathe a word about this to Craig or anyone else."
"I'm not the type to kiss and tell, but this isn't over
between us, Pierre, not by a long shot. I'll give you time to
get yourself together, but I will be back," Josh promised,
staring at her. "I liked what I sampled and I think ... no, I
know that I want another taste."
"Why?" she whispered.

"It was delicious and unique," Josh said matter of factly.
Pierre locked down her initial response, took a deep
breath, and started over. "I wasn't talking about that. I don't
understand why you want to come back after I shot you down
three times already."
"You're like this huge thick maze of shrubs, and I can't
wait until I get to the rose garden in the middle."
"I don't know what kind of game you're working on me,
but I won't be a part of it. I'll ask nicely this time. Please
leave me alone and romance another woman who's more
willing than I am." She took one last lingering look at Josh
and closed the door quietly, but not before she heard his final
comment.
"You're willing you just don't know it yet."
